Goshen Open Studio tour visits First Fridays
A combined Goshen Open Studio tour and First Fridays event on March 7 and 8, 2008, will kick off spring in Goshen, by filling downtown businesses and venues with more art and performance events than ever before.
To date, the biannual tour has taken place at each artists’ working studio or gallery. This spring, artists will bring their work downtown for exhibit in various locations in the heart of the city.
The two-day March event will showcase visual artists, performance arts, live music, dance, kids art activities, as well as a full lineup of First Fridays retail and service specials. The event starts on Friday night at 5 p.m. and ends at 9 p.m. On Saturday, the artists will reopen their exhibits from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The fall tour will resume with its usual format, with artists opening their studios to the public on Saturday, November 8, 2008, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Those who take the self-guided tour will have the opportunity to view current gallery exhibits, get an inside look at artists studios, see work in progress, and purchase original art directly from the artist.
The tour is free and open to all ages.

Harshberger’s stone sculpture can be anything from abstract, human and animal sculptures carved from alabaster, soapstone and limestone. His studio, classroom area and gallery will be open.
Lehman-Goertzen Pottery offers a line of over 100 different functional and utilitarian works made on-site. They sell work of an additional 12 clay artists. Dick and Mark also offer their museum and exhibition quality work.
Be there for a kiln opening 7 p.m., on Friday the 7th, and 10 a.m., Saturday the 8th. Anyone 12 years and older may try their hand at throwing a pot on the wheel.
Mishler’s two-story studio features large-scale, kinetic sculpture, tabletop pieces, wall sculptures, and sculptural furniture created from stainless steel and aluminum.
This fine arts gallery, located on the second floor of the Old Bag Factory, hosts a reception for “Kindred Spirits”, artwork by eleven female artists from northern Indiana. The reception features a talk at 6:30 p.m. by Dr. Kuebler-Wolf of Saint Francis University, Fort Wayne.
Strader’s studio, located behind Maple City Market, exhibits handmade, functional pottery and one-of-a-kind pieces made from stoneware and porcelain clays.
Eyedart studio gallery presents “Birds”, a juried exhibition with a theme. Attend the opening reception for the show, Friday, 4 – 9 p.m., and come back Saturday to take home your favorite piece!

Friday performance, 6:30 - 7:30 p.m.
Saturday, observe a rehearsal 1:00 - 3:00 p.m.
Sculpture by Andy Gerber will be exhibited here as the yoga studio participants demonstrate bird poses.
The Spring I classes will be performing scenes from their classes. The performances will either be on main street in front of the building or in the space depending on weather.
Friday performance 5:30 - 6:30 p.m.
Saturday, observe an acting class. 1:00 - 2:30 p.m.
Morris displays black and white fine art photography in the Ansel Adams tradition at the Shutterhugs gallery. Robert will introduce and sign his book, “Emotions in Black and White, Photography by Robert Morris”.
Guild members Fred Driver, Nick Borden, and Barb Simons will be showing their work at the Goshen Clay Artist Guild. Stop by and experience a wide range of ceramic art including both functional and decorative pottery, jewelry, and wall hangings.
The newly formed Painters Guild joins the tour for the first time. Come see the new space! The Goshen Painters Guild is accepting applications from aspiring artists.
